Rooftop tent fitment tool
Can your car carry a rooftop tent?
Use this checker to run the basic roof-load math before you buy. It does not certify fitment, but it shows whether your vehicle, rack, and tent weights are in the right range.
Fit checker
Start with a preset, then replace any value with the exact number from your manuals. Kilograms are used because most rack and tent specs publish load ratings that way.
How the fit checker works
Rooftop tent fitment has two separate checks. The dynamic check covers the weight the roof and rack carry while driving. The static check covers the parked weight of the tent, bedding, and sleepers. The lower published rating wins.
- Driving load: tent weight plus bedding/accessories must stay under the lowest dynamic rating in the system.
- Parked load: tent, bedding, and sleeper weight must stay under the rack's static rating.
- Margin: this tool treats results inside 10% of a limit as too close to call because real gear weights are rarely exact.
What this tool cannot know
It cannot see cracked roof rails, incorrect clamps, poor installation, sunroof clearance, hatch interference, off-road shock loads, or the legal interpretation of an insurance claim. Use it to avoid obvious mistakes, then verify fitment with the vehicle and rack manuals.
